Again, the poll feature gives you complete anonymity so dont be afraid to say you smoke. If you want to share your story feel free to do so. I for one am not a smoker, bless the Lord.

Oh and for the record, Im talking about cigs...

They say smoking takes 7 minutes off your life each time you light up...for the love of life people please put down the smokes...

I know they also say how hard it is to quit...Don`t start..

YES.
Put it down.
I am presently in the ICU 4 times a day right now with my mother (a 50 year smoker- she is 67). She has throat cancer and had a good portion of her esophagus removed (successfully) however , all the years of smoking have taken a tol on the lungs as well - having a hard time breathing on her own now.
Take THIS tip even if you ignore all my horse ones.

Death by emphysema and/or lung cancer is about as bad as it gets, both for the patient and anybody who cares about him. Slow, nasty, good days and many more bad.

If you smoke, stop. If you do not smoke, don't start.

I quit after many years using the "patch" and also xzyban (sp). I was told not to use them together but could find no reason that made sense to me, especially given the alternative of continuing to smoke.

Frankly, it was really easy, especially after the first 7 days. At that point the physical need was gone, became a matter of "want." At that point, if you don't want to be a smoker, it's a heckuva lot easier.

My name is Rattler.
I don't smoke pot, but I like crack and I like coke. Never injected, never will. How's that.

I smoke cigars about once a month.

I smoke non-tobacco items about twice a month.

Or were you just talking about cigarettes?

Nope. Of course, I've been known to smoke a cig or 10 when wasted, but that doesn't count since I don't drink anymore ever since my son was born last year (thus NEVER smoking)

Glad to say I quit the day after returning from the RX bash (was slightly over a pack a day). About a month and a half now. I'm proud of all the others who quit and wish all those still trying to quit the best of luck. It is difficult, but you can do it if you want to.

I was inspired by the twenty something people smoking right outside the office, man it truly is sad to see so many people doing it. To top it off, I really cannot see what they get out of it, it tastes bad, smells bad, looks bad....

Heck, if this inspires at least one person to stop smoking, the thread will have accomplished its purpose.

I've tried to quit many times, but it is really hard. Especially if your out having a few drinks. I was doing pretty good in the states because of the price of smokes. Down here in C.R., smokes are real cheap and that makes it harder for me to quit.

Come'on Pete. If you want to quit, it shouldn't be the price of smokes keeping you smoking. If you aren't ready to quit just yet, well, that's a different story.

Wish you well if you decide to try again to quit. Maybe avoid the bars for the first week. I stayed in bed the entire first day.
